In each class, the focus will be on several phrasal verbs that you will be introduced to and that we will practice together. By the end of class, you will have learnt about 5-6 different phrasal verbs and I will provide you with associated exercises to complete on your own time after class.

Throughout the course, we will focus on:

1) Key verbs such as come, go , put or make, which are frequently used in English to form phrasal verbs.

2) The different types of phrasal verbs with respect to their syntax, i.e. their grammatical environment.

3) Concepts: Phrasal verbs based on various concepts such as time (e.g. spending time), cause and effect, change or communication. Depending on your needs as a learner, we will determine and identify which ones to focus on.,

4) Functions: Phrasal verbs that express specific functions such as giving and getting information, describing a situation, disagreeing, solving problems or persuading.

5) Key Particles: We will also explore the various key particles that appear in phrasal verbs such as into, off or through and back and discuss whether these are relevant semantically, meaning do they have meaning ?

1. After having identified which aspect of grammar you would like to focus on, I'll first explain and present the specific construction or grammatical point by providing a variety of contexts in which it occurs.

2. We will initially focus on the structural component of the structure; for example, if it is a periphrastic construction such as the English causative construction, you will need plenty of examples in order to learn and acquire the structure.

3. At the next stage, we will work on the associated meaning and usage of the particular structure and examine if there are meaning varieties of the structure. For this, I will provide you with contexts such as written texts of a specific discourse or videos such as talks or interviews in which the structure appears in usage.

4. Finally, at the production stage, I will assign tasks that require you to use this specific grammatical structure. These tasks will involve both speaking and writing tasks depending on individual needs and goals.

5. For students who prefer to do exercises on their own time after class, I have a whole library of grammar books at all levels which I share with my students.

• Depending on your interest, we determine specific topics that you would like to research and discuss.

• I then provide students with authentic videos of talks/interviews and/or articles from websites to watch or read before our lesson.

• In the lesson, we discuss the subject matter in detail and go over areas that you have problems with.

• I have a list of article links that are based on specific topics that you can choose from if you prefer to read articles; though, many students prefer to listen to videos. Alternatively, we can do both a talk and an article on a specific topic.
