Derick Vorster

Hello! My name is Derick Vorster, a qualified English teacher from South Africa with over eight years of teaching experience. I hold a BA in English and Psychology and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education. My lessons are interactive, supportive, and tailored to each student’s needs—whether conversation, exam preparation, or business English. I bring energy, motivation, and clear guidance to help learners build confidence and achieve lasting results

In my classes, learners can expect engaging, supportive, and personalized lessons. I tailor each session to individual needs and goals, whether that means focusing on conversation, grammar practice, activities, games, or reading. I enjoy creating a positive and interactive environment where students feel comfortable expressing themselves and building confidence. My aim is to make learning practical, enjoyable, and effective—whatever the learner needs, I adapt to ensure steady progress.

I have been teaching English since 2011, working with a wide range of learners in both classroom and online settings. My experience includes teaching young children in face-to-face classrooms, where I designed interactive and engaging lessons that encouraged participation and built strong language foundations. I have also taught adults in business and private settings, helping professionals and individual learners improve their fluency, accuracy, and confidence for real-world communication. I am an adaptable and encouraging teacher, able to adjust my methods to suit learners’ needs, goals, and learning styles. My lessons are student-centered, supportive, and motivating, designed to create a positive atmosphere where students feel confident to express themselves. This balance of classroom and online experience has given me the ability to connect with learners of all ages and backgrounds, and to guide them toward meaningful progress in English.

Outside of teaching, I have a background in fitness coaching, which has strengthened my ability to motivate, guide, and support others in reaching their goals. I also enjoy video games and movies, which often provide fun, relatable topics for conversation practice in class. Most of all, I love spending time with my dog, Heidi, who always reminds me of the importance of patience, encouragement, and joy in everyday life. These interests help me connect with learners on a personal level and create engaging, enjoyable lessons.
